Challenge
After opening a $400 million medical campus in Jonesboro, AR, NEA Baptist – a 40-year-old health care system comprised of over 100 doctors and 50 advanced practitioners servicing a population of 1/2 million people within a 5 county area – identified a pressing need to enhance their primary care accessibility across the region. Their goal was to more effectively serve the needs of individual communities by ensuring patients could easily locate and access top-quality healthcare services.
Action
To address this challenge, Haag Brown’s Medical Division stepped in to execute a strategic acquisition and development plan. The firm purchased ten NEA Clinics across Northeast Arkansas for $14 million. Following this acquisition, Haag Brown Medical developed two ground-up general practice clinics, two specialty clinics, and one urgent care facility – all specifically designed to enhance patient access and streamline the delivery of care. Additionally, they executed sale-leaseback agreements on all properties, allowing the medical organization to free up vital capital while retaining operational control.
Results
The outcome of these actions was transformative. The newly established clinics not only provided state-of-the-art healthcare facilities but also significantly improved community access to primary care services. Patient traffic increased dramatically, leading to higher patient satisfaction and better health outcomes. The capital freed up through the sale-leaseback transactions enabled the medical organization to reinvest in additional services and programs, ultimately enhancing their overall care offerings. This initiative not only fulfilled the health system’s mission of serving the community but also positioned them as a leader in accessible, high-quality healthcare in the region.
NEA Baptist Clinics
“Haag Brown has been a really good strategic partner for NEA Baptist. We’ve been working with them for several years and Greg and Josh do a great job of helping facilitate the needs of our organization. In a health system like NEA Baptist, there’s a lot of priorities and a lot of needs, and real estate transactions is not something that is at the forefront of what we are thinking about every day. It is at the forefront of what Josh is thinking about every day”.
